District 5

District 5 is home to some of the strongest competitors in IMPBA. It occupies the geographical area of Alabama, Arkansas, Louisiana, Mississippi, and Tennessee.

District 5 has 7 clubs.

The first of which is the Southern Gentleman Racing Association (SGRA). Started in 1972 they hold 3 races per year along with some club races. Their premier race is the Hydro Invitational going on its 35th consecutive year. This race is one of the most premier races in IMPBA. The SGRA is located just above New Orleans and Lake Pontchartrain in Slidell.
The Nitro Burners of Baton Rouge were formed in 1975. Their three premier races are the Winter Shootout in February, Summer Challenge in July, and the Snowball Classic in December.

The other Club in Louisiana is the Acadian Model Power Boat Association (AMPBA) they are located in the New Iberia area. Their premier race is the TOP GUN race in April.

The Music City Buoy Dodgers (MCBD) located in the Nashville area, are still working to obtain a permanent lake site to run boats. They hold a spring and fall race in conjunction with the Huntsville Model Boating Association. The MCBD club has hosted the 1998 International Regatta.

The Mississippi Model Boaters Association (MMBA). This club started in 1999 and is the only one in the state of Mississippi. They hold three races each year. There April race is the Thunder on the Water, Summer Sizzler is in August, and their October race is the Crackerbox Invitational.

The Jackson, Tennessee RC Boat Modelers Club started in 2003 and have a brand new Drivers stand and judge’s stand with a very nice launch area. They have also hosted the 2004 and 2005 INTERNATIONAL REGATTA. And did one of the best jobs on the Internats to date.

The newest club is the reforming of the Memphis R/C Boat Club. They have reformed this club in 2006 making them the newest club in District 5.

The Huntsville club is the oldest club in District Five; the Huntsville Model Boating Association (HMBA) was started in 1967. They have hosted 8 IMPBA International Regattas with one of these as a joint effort with the MCBD club, plus the First Gas Internats.

Just to show how strong District 5 is they have hosted the International Regatta ten times in the past twenty years. This shows just how strong District 5 is and how they feel about IMPBA.
